Outlining my TED Talk

For my TED Talk I plan on using Prezi Video. It seems to be the most engaging way to present. It offers more engaging slides and transitions than a PowerPoint. I have not ever used Prezi Video so I will have PowerPoint with voice over be my back up option. I am planning on having two “maker” examples for this presentation. The first one will be a graphic organizer that has Chibitronics incorporated in it. The second I would like to be some sort of creation that represents what was learned from an informational text. This might be an example of what a feast might look like in another country. I am still figuring out the final details of the second maker project.

I hope to go through the TED Talk as follows:

  1. Begin by presenting the idea that it is integral to students success that they make the transition from learning to read to reading to learn
  2. Reference sources of information that support the importance of this
  3. Present possible ways to help aid in this transition
  4. Show the first maker project and explain how using Chibitronics can help to add a factor of engagement and motivation to read for information
  5. Explain other benefits of making such as if using a program like Chibitronics students will be reading to learn as they read the text to help them code and set up their circuits
  6. Show the second project and explain how making gives students another way to express what they have learned
  7. Discuss how it can be beneficial for all types of learning styles
  8. Closing statement/question

Please let me know if you think I am missing anything! I would also love to hear your ideas for my second maker project that can connect making to reading to learn.

  1. Hi Cassie,
You have a great plan. I have never used Prezi either so I think that it’s very smart to have a Power Point on backup. You can always make a Power Point very engaging if all else fails. But, it’s always great to think ahead. I like how you clearly numbered your steps for us, it is smart to have a plan to follow so you don’t go outside of the box.
    Great job!

  2. Cassie,
I think a lot of our classmates are choosing to use Prezi Video. I think that just highlights how Prezi Video has great presentation features if so many of using it. Having a PPT as a backup is a great idea! We never know when technology might fail us. One thing I am wondering is if Prezi Video has a production limit, like how long are the videos allowed to be? When I use the free version of WeVideo, it only allows for 5 minutes, which is not enough time.
I am excited to see your use of Chibitronics in your project! I like your outline for your video, it is very clear and organized and I think this will help to keep your video on track. I am excited to see the end product!

  3. Hi Cassie,
I am also using Prezi for my TED talk it just seems like a more dynamic and engaging way to present, I agree with you. I like your idea of incorporating 2 maker projects into your talk! I thought about using a Chibitronic idea map but im having hard time figuring out how I can integrate it into the presentation in a meaningful way. I think both of your maker ideas are great! informational texts are a great way to connect to a maker project.
    Excited to see your talk!

  4. Hi Cassie,
I like your idea of using Prezi. I’ve been contemplating on what to use for my own Tedtalk. I think a lot of our peers are also opting to use prezi so it is definitely giving my something to think about. I also like how you have a back up just in case- I think I will also be sure to have a backup just in case something doesn’t work out right. I am excited to see your talk, I think it will be great!
